Bug#267105: kicker: Clock applet doesn't show date when asked

Just to follow up, if I bring up the "adjust time and date" dialog, change
the timezone dropdown
to another value and back to new york, and click apply, the timezone now
shows EDT as
I expect.  However, after I hit OK, it goes back to UTC.
