Hi, I had exactly the same problem and I am now able to reproduce it for all users of my system by turning on Menu drop shadow (Control Center, Appearance & Themes, Style, Effects). I've written more details in KDE bug 67844 (http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67844).
