Some confusion, on where kdmrc is suppose to live. I see it in 2 different 
areas:

/usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc
/etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc

Executing kdm -debug 255, I see kdm_config is looking in  
/usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc

kdm_config[32566]: reading config /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc ...

# dpkg -S kdmrc
kdm: /usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/kdm/kdmrc-ref.docbook
kdm: /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc

So, I'm not sure what package dropped files into /etc/kde3/kdm/ and why they 
didn't get cleaned up 
on an upgrade.
