The same announcement from two different point of views:
>From MARKETING dept. -------------------- Are you tired of waiting for Sarge to be released in order to experiment with X.org on your wonderful Debian system ? [1] You would like to be able to amaze your friends with some really fancy translucent effects but you cannot do it for the moment ? [2] Then wait no more, put aside your frustration ! Just add the following lines to your /etc/apt/sources.list file and install xorg on your favorite linux distribution (may that be Debian unstable): <--- cut here ---> # i386 binary packages (amd64 will be available soon) deb http://helion.xcyb.org/debian-xcyborg unstable main # sources deb-src http://helion.xcyb.org/debian-xcyborg unstable main </--- cut here ---> Install xorg now and you will receive the latest kwin package for free including kompmgr. Why would you need kompmgr you might wonder. The answer is simple: because it integrates all those translucent effects nicely into kde-3.4.0. Get it while stock lasts ! [1] http://necrotic.deadbeast.net/xsf/XFree86/trunk/debian/local/FAQ.xhtml#debianplans [2] http://helion.xcyb.org/screenshots/ >From TECH. dept. ---------------- I created an apt repository ( http://helion.xcyb.org/debian-xcyborg/ ) that contains the latest stable xorg packages and kdebase-3.4 with kompmgr support added. To put it in another way I just rebuilt the xorg ubuntu packages on Debian unstable and modified the latest kdebase-3.4.0 package from pkg-kde.alioth to include kompmgr (more info: http://helion.xcyb.org/debian-xcyborg/changes/). To install the kwin package you will need to add the pkg-kde repository in order to satisfy dependencies (http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/docs/). Feel free to try the packages and please report back if you have any suggestions/problems. Mihai -- This message was scanned for spam and viruses by BitDefender.
