Orphaned packages on salsa live under the debian/ group, so being a member of the QA team on salsa doesn't really help much. Membership of the debian group is granted to Debian developers, and IIUC on a repository-by-repository basis to non-DDs. The best way to get started is probably to contribute patches/MRs and get review from DDs - you may want to ping here if there are no responses to those (which is probably common with orphaned packages).
