Hello, looking at [1], there are a lot of bugs still assigned to removed packages.
[1] http://udd.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugs-removed-packages.cgi If the package is removed, and it's not superseded bug any new pkg, that's fine: we close its bugs. Instead, what should we do with bugs for packages that have been removed because replaced by others (f.e.: emacs2[12]*->emacs23*, python2.4->python2[567])? I see a couple of solutions (with pros and cons): - reassign all those bugs to the most recent source pro: immediate action con: chances of unhappy maintainers due to flooding some bugs might be long gone, and should be closed instead what version information to use? - notify the maintainer to triage those bugs pro more knowledgeable look at them con if they didn't care to do at RM time, what should they do now? likely to not receive any answers (at all or in a timely fashion) how notification should be done: private email (no public trace), a bug (another one), else? I'm more inclined to favor first option, once Version is sorted out, but I'd like to hear your opinion. In the attached file you can find a list of the sources,#bugs (ordered by the number of bugs still opened), not all of them classify for the "replaced pkg" situation, but the ones at the top of the list yes.
