There is a lot of things to do with my package and with the project I did propose: 'moving java to main' Also, I'm working on GNUJAXP (I'm on of the upstream maintainer) to get transformation (xslt). I can now say that it's finished. So the next thing is to have a working javadoc alternative (gjdoc) fully in main (I think it will be done before the end of the next week). I'm not telling you the story of my life, but I also have some other plans for java, free java and free java in debian. The main thing I can tell is that I'm thinking about integrating native compiled java programs in Debian. AFAIK, Only RedHat/Fedora do this (but they are at the source! A lot of RedHat devs are working on gcj). In the last kaffe upload I made (kaffe (2:1.1.4-2) see the changelog[1]), I did change the architecture to i386 and powerpc because at this moment, it was the only two arches that build. I also filed a bug against ftp.debian.org to remove the out dated builds (#235808), the next plan was to downgrade the severity of your FTBFS bugs (#227739, #227740, #227741, #227742, #227744, #227745, #227746)... wait some days and have kaffe in testing. Next, I'd upload regular patches from CVS to try to re-build kaffe for *any* arches. I spent a lot of time (too much time) to help with kaffe in debian. I have been flamed by Ean[2] (but look at the changelog and the debian-java archives you'll be able to make your own opinion). I asked him to set up something to collaborate[3]... nothing really happen, so I setup a mailing list on Alioth[4], we are both on the project, but Mr President did not subscribe (Alioth has been down and so on), so I did subscribe him! You can follow some tentative to have a CVS repository for co-maintaining kaffe[5]... Mr President wants to set up something he has more control over who is subscribed and who can commit. Also note that Mr President does not want to collaborate in a project he is not an admin! The best thing with all the whistles is that now, doogie takes care of kaffe! Yep, also, note that I sent some bugs to sablevm (on irc or on the list) to improve it, and SableVM is still in testing! So we have two others free alternative to kaffe. So something that works with one of the VM _should_ work on others (there are some differences but the vast majority should be fine). Thanks for pointing me that. I'll set up free VM's alternatives to my packages, but I also have to talk to Stefan Gybas about the debian-java policy on the java libraries.
