Package: knewsticker Version: 4:2.2.2-1 Severity: normal Hmm. Okay, here's what happens.
I boot the computer. I log into KDE which tries to restore my last session. My last session had kicker at the bottom of the screen, a child panel at the top and a knewsticker applet in the child panel. At the point at which KDE tries to restart knewsticker, the whole process grinds to a halt, the session restoration eventually times out and kicker is unusable (not responding to any input). What knewsticker actually seem to do is claim its space on the child panel, present the arrow for the drop-down menu but not initialise the scrolling region in any way (no preferred background colour, no scrolling news articles). The network connection is up and running just fine. I ctrl-alt-bksp out of X, log into KDE again and everything starts up fine (knewsticker included). The problem only seems to happen on the first KDE login after booting the machine. If I don't leave knewsticker open at the end of the previous session, the session restoration works fine, i.e. one presumes it's knewsticker causing the problem and not any of the other apps/applets being started. Let me know if you'd like more details on this.
