In "Debian 3.0 (woody) Freeze Begins" on -devel-announce, Anthony Towns
announced that:

 | Deadline: base packages need to be free of RC bugs by July 21st.

Currently the following base RC bugs are open (A full, up-to-date listing
is available at http://base.debian.net):

apt (APT Development Team <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>)
    #97364: apt-cdrom: should support latest debian-cd features

    Either debian-cd has to revert its changes or apt be fixed.

console-data (Yann Dirson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>)
    #85128: console-data: sparc can have ps/2 keyboards aswell
    #85629: please add acorn/ps2.uk keymap
    #102500: console-data: not given correct option to choose
    #104298: fundamentally broken on powerpc

    Gergely Nagy <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> is working on this package and will
    upload a fixed version either today or tomorrow;

dhcp-client (Eloy A. Paris <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>)
    #103813: dhcp-client segfaults on powerpc

    A patch for this has been submitted; can anyone on powerpc test if it
    fixes the problem? Also, boot-floppies consider switching back to pump.

libc6 (Ben Collins <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>)
    #100336: zsh: doesn't work correctly on hppa

    Strange bug; hppa porters? A real show stopper, but only for hppa
    not the base freeze, imho.

libc6-dev (Ben Collins <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>)
    #104227: ia64 doesn't have pivot_root, #105098: Build failure on ia64

    util-linux build fails on ia64; ia64 people have to look at this;
    however, an easy fix would be to use a simple #ifdef. No show stopper.

shellutils (Michael Stone <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>)
    #91763: shellutils not ready for release yet

    But shellutils in woody are ok. Mike writes, "There is no compelling
    reason to ensure that the big changes make it into woody. It would be
    nice, but if doesn't happen it isn't a big deal."

tasksel (Randolph Chung <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>)
    #103773: refers to several task packages, so not in a releasable state

    AFAIK, only X11 not properly supported yet. Will be fixed after X4.1
    gets uploaded; won't be done before the 21th, but it's easy to fix
    afterwards.

texinfo (Josip Rodin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>)
    #105402: texinfo: tries to overwrite txi-en.tex (in tetex-base package)
    #105403: trying to overwrite ...
    #105414: texinfo: file overlap with tetex-base
    #105420: 'texinfo' tries to overwrite 'txi-en.tex'
    #105422: File conflict with tetex-base: txi-en.tex
    #105425: File conflict with tetex-base
    #105473: Conflict filename with Tetex-base
    #105494: file conflict with tetex-base
    #105528: texinfo: texinfo package trying to overwrite a file which is also

    (9 merged bugs). New tetex-base is coming today, texinfo presumably
    too since Joy said "Don't worry about it".

Some of these bugs (console-data, texinfo) will be fixed before the 21th.
Some won't -- however, most of them are quite easy to fix (they just need
some more time). Since we are freezing in steps, the base system will
still have plenty of time to stabilize and get the last RC bugs worked out.
But the base freeze has to start at some point, and I think it's a good
time to do it now. But of course it's up to the RM to decide.

For completeness, here are some more RC bugs in packages built from source
packages building other base packages; However, I don't think they are
relevant to the base freeze (just listed here because AJ's script seems to
list them, too).

bash-builtins (Matthias Klose <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>)
    #105302: missing header files in package

g++-3.0 (Debian GCC maintainers <debian-gcc@lists.debian.org>)
    #103980: [PR c++/3702] gcc-3.0 copies constructors

gcc-2.96
    #103225: binary indep gcc-2.96 packages should be arch ia64 as well

gcc-3.0 (Debian GCC maintainers <debian-gcc@lists.debian.org>)
    #103568: gcc-3.0_3.0.ds9-4(unstable): fails to build from source

gcc-avr (Debian GCC maintainers <debian-gcc@lists.debian.org>)
    #105847: failed autobuild of gcc-avr_3.0.ds9-4 (m68k): incorrectly assumes

libstdc++3-dev (Debian GCC maintainers <debian-gcc@lists.debian.org>)
    #105246: [arm] can't compile a trivial program including <string>

libwrap0-dev (Anthony Towns <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>)
    #105874: libwrap0-dev: missing #include <stdio.h> causes other packages to

nscd (Ben Collins <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>)
    #92199: broken pipe error: bug #58367 is back
