Are you using gdm 1.0.0 (from unstable) ? It is no more maintained upstream and gdm2 is in progress (already beta even if some features are still missing). You may want to wait a bit. gdm2 which is in experimental is an old gdm2. I've tested gdm2beta2 but it's not yet ready. Havoc Pennington told me to test with the gdm2 from CVS since there have been many commits recently. I will test this this afternoon.
