the getmac script in the examples dir seems to be set up for an older
version of arping. Options -f should probably be -r, -I should really be
-i, and -w specifies microsecons (3 is not enough).
I suggest to use these options:
arping -r -c 1 -w 3000 -i $interface '$host'
