I've been thinking about this for a while, and the short answer is: "I
don't say 'no'." It's not THAT simple, however, and I'll explain my
thoughts as soon as I've got enough time again.

I WILL test the new driver, when I've enough spare time – it probably
involves to set up a fresh installation rather than starting from the
old "Lenny era" test drive I've stored with my spare card. The other
machine has a more recent version, but I think is still too old to
simply install a 4.x kernel and try loading that module.
