As Joey Hess observes in [https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=625696#10], rsync is necessary to enumerate the file list. Notwithstanding, A Mennucc is probably right that the rsync solution is not quite right.
No fix for this bug is contemplated, but who knows? Maybe someone will someday think of suitable fix. In the meantime, as A Mennucc suggests: > let's keep this bug standing until someone > has some better ideas.
