Package: qsynth Version: 0.3.4-1 Severity: wishlist User: debian-...@lists.debian.org Usertags: debian-edu
When starting rosegarden with jackd and qsynth for the first time, the only one of these packages requiring configuration to work is qsynth, and the configuration it need is to select a sound font, and this is rather hard for a new user as the start directory for the font selection is not /usr/share/sound/sf2/ where the sound fonts are located. Please change the defaults for the menu option "Setup->Soundfounts->Open" to be /usr/share/sound/sf2/ and let the package recommend fluid-soundfont-gm to make sure a sound font is installed by default when qsynth is installed. It would also be great if qsynth was smart enough to look in the /usr/share/sound/sf2/ directory and if there is only one sound font present in that directory select that one automatically. It would make it possible to get qsynth working out of the box without any configuration. We provide qsynth in Debian Edu along with a rosegarden howto found at <URL:http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEdu/Documentation/Manuals/Rosegarden>, and it would be great to shorten the recipe and get rosegarden working without having to configure qsynth.
