If it has the functionality to create rar archives via rar, this is a serious problem, because it is encouraging users to create "trap archives" that can't be extracted with free software. I believe this is a violation of DFSG #4 ("Our priorities are our users and free software") since we put: - A minority of our users (those who use rar to publish data). before: - The majority of our users (who can't extract the data in a pure Debian system). - The free software community, for which trap archive formats are seriously detrimental. OTOH, if this package is only using rar to extract these archives, then it'd be better to use the unrar package instead (in that case severity of this bug should be lowered). -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.12-1-k7 Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) (ignored: LC_ALL set to C) --------------------------------------- Received: (at 340705-done) by bugs.debian.org; 11 Jan 2006 14:34:19 +0000 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Jan 11 06:34:19 2006 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from mail.irb.hr ([161.53.22.8] ident=UNKNOWN) by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 4.50) id 1Ewh3L-0000XS-C2; Wed, 11 Jan 2006 06:34:19 -0800 Received: from diziet.irb.hr (diziet.irb.hr [161.53.22.31]) by mail.irb.hr (8.13.4/8.13.4/Debian-3) with ESMTP id k0BEXwuw007932; Wed, 11 Jan 2006 15:33:58 +0100 Received: from diziet.irb.hr (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by diziet.irb.hr (8.13.5/8.13.5/Debian-3) with ESMTP id k0BEZ0Ap013215; Wed, 11 Jan 2006 15:35:00 +0100 Received: (from [EMAIL PROTECTED]) by diziet.irb.hr (8.13.5/8.13.5/Submit) id k0BEZ0T9013213; Wed, 11 Jan 2006 15:35:00 +0100 From: Matej Vela <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Removed Date: Wed, 11 Jan 2006 15:35:00 +0100 Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> User-Agent: Gnus/5.110004 (No Gnus v0.4) Emacs/21.4 (gnu/linux) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii X-Scanned-By: MIMEDefang 2.51 on 161.53.22.8 X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2005_01_02 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-2.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00,ONEWORD autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2005_01_02 X-CrossAssassin-Score: 2 guitar has been removed from Debian due to a lack of upstream activity.
