If this is the mime.el from flim, the current version seems to use mmencode only with XEmacs, where it is included in xemacs21-bin. Otherwise it appears to use utilities from mime-codecs. Is mime-compose.el packaged for Debian? > and these files could also be simply patched to remove the problem. I think that would be best; mmencode was removed from metamail almost seven years ago.
