Well I dont know what happened, but the problem seems to have gone away, i logged into my system as another user to test something unrelated, and i didnt get the gnome-settings daemon problem, so i logged out and in with my own account and the problem was gone, logged in and out a few times just to be sure, *fixed*
I tried to think if i had changed anything on the system, but i im sure i didnt alter anything. I guess i'll put this one down to using unstable with experimental packages. please contact me if there is anything i can still tell you. regards, -- Max
