I'm doing this by doing a backup file, with a max tape size of 650MB. Then when taper asks for a new tape, I do the following: mv taper.arch taper.arch.1 touch taper.arch Then I go and tell taper it's OK to continue. I do this until I get to the last volume and then I do: mv taper.arch taper.arch.N (where N is the last number in the set). I end up with taper.arch.[1-N] representing N CD's that I need to burn. So far when doing the backup this works just fine. However, I can't seem to restore from these sets. To restore I do: mv taper.arch.1 taper.arch Then start the restore. When I get to the end of the first volume, I do: mv taper.arch taper.arch.1 mv taper.arch.2 taper.arch And then I tell taper it's OK to continue. At which point taper immediately quits and tells me that it's done. The taper.log ends up with the following in it: Wed Aug 15 15:21:27 2001: Starting Restore v6.9b Wed Aug 15 15:26:46 2001: ERROR: Checksum error for file /backup/restore/usr/lib/netscape/477/communicator/communicator-smotif.real - should be 213817151 but found 215436673 Wed Aug 15 15:26:46 2001: INTERNAL ERROR: At offset 30820 but want to go to 30771 Wed Aug 15 15:26:47 2001: Restored: 49095 files, 449,017K Wed Aug 15 15:26:47 2001: Time elapsed 0:04:22. Wed Aug 15 15:26:47 2001: 0 warnings, 742 errors Wed Aug 15 15:26:51 2001: Restore finished. (I've deleted a whole bunch of ERRORS where taper is trying to set the attributes on a symlink that hasn't had the thing it's linked to restored yet. That part of the restore is working just fine.) I know that this isn't exactly how taper is intended to be used. If I'm making an obvious error in how I'm doing this, I'd love to hear it.
