This can occur, because mpg321 reads the entire file to compute exactly the length of the file (because gqmpeg uses the '-v' option). In my opinion, this is correct by mpg321. So the bug of gqmeg: Please add an option to set this timeout by hand. PS: mpg123 does not read the entire file, so this problem cannot occur, but mpg123 does not calculate correctly the length of some mp3s.
