I guess broken search is rather caused by compressed .doctree files, but I might be wrong.If someone is doing that, there's also the missing _sources issue [0], although that's a lot harder to detect (you need to identify a sphinx docs subtree...)
You mean files in .doctrees/ subdirectory? They are cache files and shouldn't be shipped binary packages at all.
