2.7 will be properly supported only in numpy 1.5 [1] but you can make
1.4.1 it works with it but some patches have to be backported from
trunk [2], and I don't encourage that.

So given that only now an updated numpy is needed also by Ubuntu
(maybe that's a reason 1.4.* was not uploaded to unstable earlier?) we
can see doko fixing the remaining issues with numpy? I doubt that.
