Right. AFAIK there's no way to do that with Distutils (yet).
That is the purpose (IIUC) for the ‘develop’ command in Setuptools: to
make the package available for Python in situ.
emesene uses distutils and you can run it without installing it. Maybe it
doesn't use it very well though...
