Unless anybody else is interested, I plan to pick up the Python part of dpkg-scriptlib and make it a separate (and maintained:-) package. I also plan to enhance it with few lines of code I wrote for some thing--adding few classes for interfacing Sources/Packages with LDAP (yes, this should work (not only) with data produced by Ben Collin's scripts).
