There is some discussion in the empathy bugtracker about this particular issue Unfortunately, there is not much we can do about that on the server side (apart from giving non-TLS access, but some people would then have issues with "SIP helper" routers that mangle the protocol) However, it is one of the good things about this trial, hopefully all the main SIP clients will register this feedback/bugs and be able to smooth out these issues by the time jessie is frozen in November Is there any way you could try Jitsi?
