Advantages of using Debian

Good afternoon. My name is Sebastian, I'm student at Technical University in 
Romania. My project is to study security vulnerabilities of using Asterisk in 
Linux distribution. I chose Debian as a Linux distribution and first I have to 
give some arguments for which I have chosen this type of distribution. Can you 
help me to give some advantages in using Debian and not to use other types of 
distribution?
