'Embedded' is a bit of an umbrella definition that covers many things. Some embedded systems have a few kilobytes of RAM and little permanent storage; others are only 'embedded' in that they're small enough to be part of 'something else', but have several gigabytes of permanent storage and a processor with a clockspeed of several hundred megahertz. There are embedded systems that wouldn't even fit a Linux kernel; OTOH I'm currently doing work on an 'embedded' platform that has the storage capacity (but not the processor power) to run a full modern desktop. Therefore, saying that 'embedded' systems don't use 'plain Debian', and drawing all kinds of conclusions from that statement, is a bit dangerous IMO. -- The biometric identification system at the gates of the CIA headquarters works because there's a guard with a large gun making sure no one is trying to fool the system. http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2009/01/biometrics.html -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-project-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
