That depends a lot on what you would consider to be a french version.
The Debian website contains a lot of information pertaining to localisation
support for various languages. For french, I'd recommend studying

and I'd looking at http://www.debian.org/international/l10n/po/rank, french
ranks second in the list of supported languages measured by the number of
translated strings.
