Package: cups-pdf
Version: 2.6.1-22
Severity: wishlist
In the package description text and in the READM.Debian file, I think it
would be useful to add text that clarifies some points:
While cups-pdf generally makes a good or at least decent job of
generating a PDF files, there are some cases when the quality of the
generated PDF is low. Apart from some corner situations, cups-pdf
needs not being used, specifically:
- when using a program able to generate a PDF, it is best to use that
functionality, for example when using Libreoffice, or Inkscape, or Gimp
- otherwise, it is advisable to use the "print to file" functionality of
the printing subsystem: for example in Gnome when you choose a printer
from a list in the printing dialog, "print to file" is the first
choice, above all printers names
In practice, the above two situations should cover the vast majority of
cases when a PDF is produced locally on a PC equipped with screen and
keyboard.

+ Emphasize that desktop users might prefer GTK/QT's Print to PDF feature
or LibreOffice's Export to PDF feature (Closes: #857165).
- Suggests: system-config-printer-gnome | system-config-printer-kde
Ubuntu no longer ships -gnome and -kde appears unmaintained.
