Hi dear HPLIP maintainers, (Please CC me on replies, I'm not subscribed to pkg-hpijs-devel@l.a.d.o)
several times recently, I took a dive into the HPLIP packaging (in particular for #649991, and now for #655424) and each time I did so, I found it hard to work with. So here I am to propose discussions around some enhancements. Although I don't intend to enforce any of those without consent from the current maintainers (of course), I am willing to propose patches for each of those. * Put hplip under the Debian Printing Team umbrella This doesn't imply any of the other enhancements, just having everything printing-related referred to under the same e-mail address. * Convert source package to 3.0 (quilt) This implies going away from (deprecated) dpatch towards quilt and getting rid of weirdo dpkg-source exclusion patterns. * Reduce debian/rules to use more debhelper/dh magic This would vastly reduce the complexity of debian/rules (see e.g. the installation of linda+lintian files and all the manual files installations). This would also probably help towards solving #655424). * Migrate away from Svn to Git Personally, I'm much more comfortable with Git than with SVN, but I understand it's a personal question. Migrating away from SVN wouldn't mean loosing the package history (see e.g. the foo2zjs packaging repository). * Add myself as co-maintainer ... If you think it's wise. So? Opinions?
