gs-esp was merged into ghostscript bit by bit, culminating in 2007-06-22 (so gs-gpl versions before then lack some gs-esp patches). Anyway, I've checked that modern ghostscript doesn't have Troy's patch applied but not decided whether something like it is useful for robustness.
