Hello, I'm running a current verion of Debian SID on a Powermac G4 MDD with 2 GiB memory and an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro graphics card with an ADC output and a DVI output; I'm using the DVI output with a VGA adapter.
I'm seeing errors that I initially thought might be memory related, but they appear to have something to do with the X screensaver. Usually, the screensaver works as expected, but after the system has been on for a while, it sometimes fails silently, with a traceback in dmesg similar to the one shown below. I have these X related packages installed: # uname -a Linux ppc-g4 6.12.12-powerpc-smp #1 SMP Debian 6.12.12-1 (2025-02-02) ppc GNU/Linux # dpkg -l | grep -i xorg ii xserver-xorg 1:7.7+24 powerpc X.Org X server ii xserver-xorg-core 2:21.1.15-2 powerpc Xorg X server - core server ii xserver-xorg-input-all 1:7.7+24 powerpc X.Org X server -- input driver metapackage ii xserver-xorg-input-libinput 1.4.0-1 powerpc X.Org X server -- libinput input driver ii xserver-xorg-input-wacom 1.2.3-1 powerpc X.Org X server -- Wacom input driver ii xserver-xorg-legacy 2:21.1.15-2 powerpc setuid root Xorg server wrapper ii xserver-xorg-video-all 1:7.7+24 powerpc X.Org X server -- output driver metapackage ii xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu 23.0.0-1 powerpc X.Org X server -- AMDGPU display driver ii xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:22.0.0-1 powerpc X.Org X server -- AMD/ATI display driver wrapper ii xserver-xorg-video-fbdev 1:0.5.0-2 powerpc X.Org X server -- fbdev display driver ii xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.17-3 powerpc X.Org X server -- Nouveau display driver ii xserver-xorg-video-radeon 1:22.0.0-1 powerpc X.Org X server -- AMD/ATI Radeon display driver ii xserver-xorg-video-vesa 1:2.6.0-1 powerpc X.Org X server -- VESA display driver The problem appears to be happening in xserver-xorg-video-radeon. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. I can report a bug upstream to the Xorg people, or if the problem is already known and being looked at I'll just wait any see whether it gets fixed. I tried renaming /lib/xorg/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.so to see if Xorg would revert to using the fb framebuffer, but X didn't start. It's possible I would need to install an additional package to use the default framebuffer. # dmesg | grep fb [ 0.000000] * 0xffb9f000..0xfffff000 : fixmap [ 34.595012] [drm] fb mappable at 0x98040000 [ 34.595076] [drm] fb depth is 24 [ 34.677869] radeon 0000:00:10.0: [drm] fb0: radeondrmfb frame buffer device thanks for any information -Stan ----- [73801.597951] ------------[ cut here ]------------ [73801.597990] Can't enable IRQ/MSI because no handler is installed [73801.598208] WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 1217 at drivers/gpu/drm/radeon/r100.c:728 r100_irq_set+0xdc/0x100 [radeon] [73801.598519] Modules linked in: radeon drm_suballoc_helper drm_display_helper drm_ttm_helper ttm drm_kms_helper drm evdev apple_mfi_fastcharge therm_windtunnel sg drm_panel_orientation_quirks rack_meter ext4 crc16 mbcache jbd2 crc32c_generic hid_generic usbhid hid ohci_pci ehci_pci ohci_hcd ehci_hcd firewire_ohci sungem usbcore sr_mod aic7xxx sungem_phy firewire_core cdrom sd_mod scsi_transport_spi usb_common crc_itu_t [73801.598653] CPU: 0 UID: 0 PID: 1217 Comm: Xorg Tainted: G W 6.12.12-powerpc #1 Debian 6.12.12-1 [73801.598668] Tainted: [W]=WARN [73801.598674] Hardware name: PowerMac3,6 7455 0x80010303 PowerMac [73801.598681] NIP: bf08b0f0 LR: bf08b0f0 CTR: 00000000 [73801.598689] REGS: f3571880 TRAP: 0700 Tainted: G W (6.12.12-powerpc Debian 6.12.12-1) [73801.598697] MSR: 00021032 <ME,IR,DR,RI> CR: 28888282 XER: 20000000 [73801.598723] GPR00: bf08b0f0 f3571940 c2131600 00000034 3fffefff f35717e0 f35717d8 0000031c GPR08: 00000027 00000000 00000000 ffffefff 48888282 0084fff0 00856348 af8bd534 GPR16: 008561d4 00856344 008561d0 00000080 bf0008c4 00000010 00000010 c1a25618 GPR24: c3b2d900 f3571a3c 00000001 c2e48004 00000000 c2e48004 00000000 c2e48000 [73801.598833] NIP [bf08b0f0] r100_irq_set+0xdc/0x100 [radeon] [73801.598953] LR [bf08b0f0] r100_irq_set+0xdc/0x100 [radeon] [73801.599062] Call Trace: [73801.599068] [f3571940] [bf08b0f0] r100_irq_set+0xdc/0x100 [radeon] (unreliable) [73801.599184] [f3571960] [bf04fb74] radeon_enable_vblank_kms+0x58/0x84 [radeon] [73801.599291] [f3571980] [beffe7d8] drm_vblank_enable+0x1b8/0x1cc [drm] [73801.599422] [f35719a0] [befffc90] drm_vblank_get+0x9c/0x104 [drm] [73801.599473] [f35719c0] [bf0009b4] drm_wait_vblank_ioctl+0xf0/0x804 [drm] [73801.599523] [f3571a20] [befe566c] drm_ioctl+0x250/0x54c [drm] [73801.599577] [f3571b00] [bf04b06c] radeon_drm_ioctl+0x6c/0xf8 [radeon] [73801.599703] [f3571b30] [c03ace94] sys_ioctl+0x250/0xc60 [73801.599721] [f3571bc0] [c0014ba4] system_call_exception+0xa0/0x11c [73801.599741] [f3571f30] [c001f1ac] ret_from_syscall+0x0/0x2c [73801.599758] --- interrupt: c00 at 0xa795c87c [73801.599769] NIP: a795c87c LR: a795c79c CTR: 0000003d [73801.599777] REGS: f3571f40 TRAP: 0c00 Tainted: G W (6.12.12-powerpc Debian 6.12.12-1) [73801.599785] MSR: 0000d032 <EE,PR,ME,IR,DR,RI> CR: 48882882 XER: 00000000 [73801.599815] GPR00: 00000036 af8bd1c0 a7debca0 0000000e c010643a af8bd26c 00000002 af8bd1f8 GPR08: 0000000e 00000000 00ff00ff 00ff00f5 00ff00f5 0084fff0 00856348 af8bd534 GPR16: 008561d4 00856344 008561d0 00856340 008561e0 28002882 00000000 00000001 GPR24: 00000000 af8bd218 c010643a 0000000e af8bd26c 00000000 a7a5ffa4 00000001 [73801.599923] NIP [a795c87c] 0xa795c87c [73801.599930] LR [a795c79c] 0xa795c79c [73801.599938] --- interrupt: c00 [73801.599944] Code: 2c0a0000 41a2ffa4 4bffff9c 8143174c 2c0a0000 41a2ff84 4bffff7c 3c60f32b 7c0802a6 3863ce78 90010024 48ff7901 <0fe00000> 813f0474 39290040 7c0004ac [73801.599999] ---[ end trace 0000000000000000 ]---
