Currently, there are no plans in the near future to make "ppc64" a release architecture (or any other architecture within Debian Ports) as that would require lots of efforts to convince the release team that it qualifies. Technically, ppc64 certainly meets all the necessary criteria mentioned in [1], but the problem is that the big-endian port has no strong lobby, neither within Debian nor upstream as the little-endian port is considered the norm and there seems to be hardly any commercial or community interest in a big-endian Debian release. So, it's more a political issue than a technical one. > Because on that site, it’s listed as available: > https://openpower.ic.unicamp.br/minicloud/ This is not an official Debian source and they just mention they made our big-endian images available. It's not a proof that there is actually a release version of Debian for ppc64. In the future, we are planning to enable testing and stable releases for Debian Ports for which we would need our own instance of Britney [2], the software which is responsible for managing testing migrations among other things. There were some plans discussed regarding our own Britney instance in #debian-ports on IRC we were offered help by one of the Britney developers but so far this hasn't been materialized yet. The primary problem for Debian Ports is the lack of manpower. Many of the issues we have such as the lack of cruft on our package archives [3] would have been resolved already if we had enough manpower. And we would probably also have our own Britney instance already if we had someone willing to step forward and do the work.
