Might be easier to answer if you said which options you used. Running qemu-system-ppc64 -cpu POWER8 (version 1:2.7+dfsg-3+b1) did not fail for me using debian-testing-ppc64el-netinst.iso Trying with debian-stretch-DI-alpha8-ppc64el-netinst.iso worked fine too. -- Len Sorensen
