If you want therm_adt746x to control your temperature your kernel must provide /sys/devices/temperatures/. The kernel config is THERM_ADT746X. If your hardware doesn't provide the device maybe another device supports it (i.e THERM_WINDTUNNEL). Did you tried a LIVE CD like an unofficial UBUNTU one?
