no i cannot.

in fact even 
cat techsound.au > /dev/audio
gives no sound.
before it gave the scratchy sound.

now when i did modprobe snd-powermac to see if i can hear the scratchy sound 
again, the machine froze, preventing me from saving the output of the lists of 
packages installed. 

rest assured the standard packages are installed for squeeze. this is a kernel 
problem not a problem with not having userland packages installed for 
particular audio codecs :)
