I cant play 720p on a PowerBook G4 5,4 (1,33 Ghz, 15 inch, Radeon 9600/9700 rv350) either. But I forgot to: aptitude install firmware-linux That helped a little regarding performance, I think. In that package is the Firmware for R3xx ATI cards.
