Especially if you're using the r300 driver, can you try building
6.5.3~rc3-1 from experimental and see if it's any better?

You're saying it switches between the modes but remains blank? Does the
window size change in the process?
Er, it's all black all the time, even if i press "F" or most other
keys(except the Q, ESC keys for exiting works). Looks like the modes are
not switched, i didn't see a window size change.
oops, sorry, i mistook "f" as "F". I can switch between window mode and
fullscreen mode. But both simply give a black screen.
