Dean and booster: Sorry I didn't have the time to read the page above,
but here's an excerpt from the notes I made when connecting IBM-Java
to Firefox a few months ago. Please note that this connect still seems
to work with iceweasel 2.0.0.3 here.

Status quo:
ll /etc/alternatives/firefox-javaplugin.so
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 49 Dec 19 22:16 /etc/alternatives/firefox-
javaplugin.so -> /usr/lib/j2re1.5-ibm/jre/bin/libjavaplugin_oji.so
And that's what I did - according to my notes - to get the above:
ln -s --force -i /usr/lib/j2re1.5-ibm/jre/bin/libjavaplugin_oji.so \
/etc/alternatives/firefox-javaplugin.so
ln: replace `/etc/alternatives/firefox-javaplugin.so'? y
I just visited
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml
and was told there I had IBM's Java 1.5.0 ...
Please come back if that does not help ...
