See http://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/2006/02/msg00137.htmlIt's because of the nVidia display adapter, the system is booting but there's no display. Note that the installation kernel/initrd for the etch debian-installer CD now works, but the kernel/initrd that gets installed to the hard drive doesn't. Possibly there is a module in the initrd that conflicts with the card. I have had suggestions that I experiment with building a specialised initrd, however I have limited expertise in this area.
Note that the Ubuntu (dapper) server installation, which is based on debian-installer, installs a kernel/initrd that doesn't have this problem (so it should be fixable in Debian), however the Ubuntu kernel hangs a few minutes after boot on this system (PowerMac11,2) with ATA device error messages, so it's not currently a Linux solution for you.
I also eagerly await a fix for this problem. -- 犬 Chris Burdess "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Benjamin Franklin
