I just installed Etch (beta 2?) on my G5. No sign of problems with
yaboot at the end of the install, but when I start the computer,
there is no OpenFirmware menu for choosing between OS X (10.4.6)
and
Debian Linux. I have also tried holding down the option key at
boot,
but no penguin visible. Yaboot seems to have gone AWOL.
Can anyone help?
you've stated the osx boot in yaboot.conf?
I can only boot into OS X. No Debian available in OF :-(
Dunno remember the exact typo, but in when you enter OF you enter
the correct
boot partition, instead of osX'.

No, no. This is an issue with the way yaboot.conf is created at
install. After having done some research and tried it myself, I have
found that Ubuntu has the same problem as Debian. I am not sure if
this issue is limited only to machines with SATA drives, but the only
solution at this time seems to be to boot from a live CD, like Ubuntu
Dapper, mount the root partition, edit the yaboot.conf file manually
and then run 'sudo ybin -v'.
