If you still have a working yaboot.conf, you can boot from an install CD or a Live CD (I usually use a Ubuntu Live CD), chroot into your system and just run `ybin -v`. Otherwise, assuming you didn't get into this trouble by having a bad yaboot.conf in the first place, you might be able to extract your yaboot.conf from the boot partition.
