Hi, I am doing tests with a usb HD. It's suposed to obtain enery from the usb only, but there is another cable to obtain more energy from another usb when the computer is a laptop with low power usbs. The fact is that when I use it in windows in aonther laptops or pcs, and in mac os x in this iBook i have full power usb, but running Debian, I need to plug the other cable because if i dont it mounts the disk but it loses the device in about 10,15 seconds or less, sometimes in 1 or 2 seconds. During that seconds I can use it normal. When I plug the second cable to the other usb i ve no problem. This is the syslog output: Apr 8 18:21:47 localhost kernel: Vendor: TOSHIBA Model: MK8025GAS Rev: 0000 Apr 8 18:21:47 localhost kernel: Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 00 Apr 8 18:21:47 localhost kernel: SCSI device sda: 156301488 512-byte hdwr sectors (80026 MB) Apr 8 18:21:47 localhost kernel: sda: Write Protect is off Apr 8 18:21:47 localhost kernel: sda: Mode Sense: 27 00 00 00 Apr 8 18:21:47 localhost kernel: sda: assuming drive cache: write through Apr 8 18:21:47 localhost kernel: SCSI device sda: 156301488 512-byte hdwr sectors (80026 MB) Apr 8 18:21:47 localhost kernel: sda: Write Protect is off Apr 8 18:21:47 localhost kernel: sda: Mode Sense: 27 00 00 00 Apr 8 18:21:47 localhost kernel: sda: assuming drive cache: write through Apr 8 18:21:48 localhost kernel: sda: sda1 sda2 Apr 8 18:21:48 localhost kernel: sd 19:0:0:0: Attached scsi disk sda Apr 8 18:21:48 localhost kernel: sd 19:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg0 type 0 Apr 8 18:21:48 localhost kernel: usb-storage: device scan complete Apr 8 18:21:50 localhost kernel: 18:0:0:0: rejecting I/O to dead device Apr 8 18:21:50 localhost kernel: 18:0:0:0: rejecting I/O to dead device Apr 8 18:21:50 localhost kernel: FAT: Directory bread(block 38160) failed Apr 8 18:21:50 localhost kernel: 18:0:0:0: rejecting I/O to dead device Apr 8 18:21:50 localhost kernel: FAT: Directory bread(block 38161) failed Apr 8 18:21:50 localhost kernel: 18:0:0:0: rejecting I/O to dead device Apr 8 18:21:50 localhost kernel: FAT: Directory bread(block 38162) failed
With Mac OS X ive no problem powering the disk with one cable only. Somebody has any idea about what can I do? Thanks for your time. Saladino
