I did build the DRM kernel module from that site. I downloaded the mesa source of the debian package and simply enabled the r300 driver and rebuilt the package. But in any case, the latest libgl1-mesa-dri (6.4x in unstable) package does include the r300 driver, and the drm in recent kernels does work for me.
