One thing that OS X used to do to CD-boot on those machines (at least
earlier versions of OS X that could support those) was to install
patches for OF in nvram that "fix" the cd-booting.... of course, you
lose them if you cmd-opt-P-R...

It's possible that a recent version of MockOS will restore them, that or
trying to boot form an OS X install CD... those are in fact fake macos
boot CDs (that is, they contain a "System" file, a bit like miboot)
which will update the nvram and reboot right away.
