See the following bug: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=338569 I solved it by putting direct links to java,javac,... from /usr/lib/j2sdk1.5-ibm/bin/ in a local directory in my home directory. I believe there is also a bug for the fact that the java-plugin in the ibm jdk is not added to firefox/mozilla.
