Now, that is really strange. Did you keep the "optimize for size"? And I was actually using gcc-3.4 when I posted that, since it can optimize better than gcc-3.3 (which doesn't have -funit-at-time or whatever the option is called). Now, I'm using gcc-4.0, but I have not compiled a ppc kernel for a little while.
