But as I remember my woody boxes (all x86, I'm a > powerpc newbie) you did NOT automatically get the latest kernel by > doing an apt-get update. Yes, but there seems not to be another one: # apt-cache search --names-only kernel-image kernel-image-2.4.18-powerpc - Linux kernel binary image. kernel-image-2.4.18-powerpc-smp - Linux kernel binary image. kernel-image-2.4.18-powerpc-xfs - Linux kernel binary image for version 2.4.18-powerpc-xfs That looks like there are only updates for 2.4.18, but not for 2.4.18-xfs. Uuhh... good luck. This my only system without xfs, so I can use the other kernel. What does one do if one wants xfs?
