I've just down a brand new install of woody on a slot-loading imac. I installed debian on the same imac a few years ago, but a lot seems to have changed thus invalidating the knowledge I built up.
This time everything went smoothly till X startup. X just wouldn't start at all. Am I right in assuming that an X problem is likely to be lack of the necessary framebuffer support in the 2.2 kernel? Is it normal to have to install a new kernel to get X to work on iMacs? I followed the standard Debian procedure to build a kernel package but when I run: fakeroot make-kpkg ... I get: S3triofb.c: In function `s3trio_init': S3triofb.c:322: warning: implicit declaration of function `pci_device_loc' S3triofb.c: At top level: S3triofb.c:783: warning: `Trio_MoveCursor' defined but not used make[4]: *** [S3triofb.o] Error 1 make[4]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.18/drivers/video' make[3]: *** [first_rule] Error 2 make[3]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.18/drivers/video' make[2]: *** [_subdir_video] Error 2 make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.18/drivers' make[1]: *** [_dir_drivers] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.18' make: *** [stamp-build] Error 2 This suprised me. Why is a kernel package in stable malfunctioning? Does it require some dependancy I don't know about? -- Nic Ferrier http://www.tapsellferrier.co.uk
