Hi, I'm trying to use the video output on an iBook G3 2.2 14" equipped with an ATI Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500] using a 2.6.7 Linux kernel and X.org's X11R6.7.0 x server. I'd like the external monitor to clone the iBook's one. > The best way to get this to work is to shutdown your powerbook and > completely hookup the monitor. Unfortunately if I follow these steps, the external monitor works almost properly but the iBook's one doesn't at all. When I open up the lid I get images that have nothing to do with the output I get on the external monitor. If I run dmesg give these conditions I get these lines among the others: radeonfb: Invalid ROM signature 0 should be 0xaa55 radeonfb: Retreived PLL infos from Open Firmware radeonfb: Reference=27.00 MHz (RefDiv=12) Memory=180.00 Mhz, \ System=180.00 MHz radeonfb: Monitor 1 type CRT found radeonfb: EDID probed radeonfb: Monitor 2 type CRT found radeonfb: EDID probed radeonfb: Power Management enabled for Mobility chipsets radeonfb: ATI Radeon LW DDR SGRAM 32 MB If I just plug the external video cable but I don't close the lid the iBook's monitor works, apart from not setting the resoulution properly under X, and the external monitor doesn't work at all. If I run dmesg give these conditions I get these lines among the others: radeonfb: Invalid ROM signature 0 should be 0xaa55 radeonfb: Retreived PLL infos from Open Firmware radeonfb: Reference=27.00 MHz (RefDiv=12) Memory=180.00 Mhz, \ System=180.00 MHz radeonfb: Monitor 1 type LCD found radeonfb: EDID probed radeonfb: Monitor 2 type CRT found radeonfb: EDID probed radeonfb: Power Management enabled for Mobility chipset > As for this working as it does on other laptops and being able to just > plug the monitor and it work, there needs to be some driver work or > something about an open firmware emulator and there is no timetable > for when that will be available(if ever?). I've been lurking the ML for a while and some time ago I read in another message that someone managed to make the cloning to work. Unfortunately I'm not able to find that message anymore. =( Furthermore I'm not a Debian user thus I'm not able to use Debian binary packages. I know this ML is intended for Debian users but I wasn't able to find a community like this anywhere else and this is the only place where I was able to find useful informations about running GNU/Linux on an iBook when I needed an helping hand. Any hint or pointer will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
