hello again, unloading dmasound_* works for me with 2.4 kernels (recent benh). However, when booting 2.6.4 (-ck2 branch) no modules are loaded at all and of course sound does not work. Is it possible to switch between 2.4 and 2.6 series and let modules be loaded automagically? Well, if only 2.6 kernels would work it'd be ok too ;-)
Thanks, Rob hi there.. * [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2004-06-07 10:31 +0200]: > > i made a few 2.6 kernel for my late 2001 iBook G3. > My problem is that i didn't get sound working yet. > > "/etc/init.d/alsa start" gives me > Restoring ALSA mixer settings ... failed: > You may want to run 'alsactl restore' manually to view any > errors. > > and > alsactl restore > alsactl: load_state:1134: No soundcards found... > > But the modules seem to be there: > > Module Size Used by Not tainted > r128 100996 1 > snd-usb-audio 49908 0 (autoclean) (unused) > snd-pcm-oss 46228 0 (autoclean) (unused) > snd-mixer-oss 15088 0 (autoclean) [snd-pcm-oss] > snd-pcm 66884 0 (autoclean) [snd-usb-audio > snd-pcm-oss] > snd-timer 16836 0 (autoclean) [snd-pcm] > snd-page-alloc 6596 0 (autoclean) [snd-pcm] > snd-rawmidi 16112 0 (autoclean) [snd-usb-audio] > snd-seq-device 5000 0 (autoclean) [snd-rawmidi] > snd 39448 0 (autoclean) [snd-usb-audio > snd-pcm-oss snd-mixer-oss snd-pcm snd-timer snd-rawmidi > snd-seq-device] > dmasound_pmac 65424 0 (unused) > dmasound_core 12832 0 [dmasound_pmac] not quite or is your sound device really attached via USB? i believe snd-powermac should be your ALSA-module of choice. dmasound_pmac is OSS, btw and might interfere with ALSA, so you should unload it beforehand. if automatic loading of snd-powermac fails, you can put it into /etc/modules. bye, sebastian -- ::: .O. ::: ..O ::: OOO ::: lynx -source http://www.kodeaffe.de/shensche.pub | gpg --import
